Consultancy Services for Design Review, Construction Supervision, and Contract Administration for Adama Town Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement

The project envisions addressing the town’s water supply needs until 2040. The proposed components include boreholes, collector and service reservoirs, transmission and distribution pipework, and auxiliary buildings like a chemical and store building, works shop, and pipe shades. Furthermore, the project features a booster pump station, generator house, and guard houses with an EEU switchboard. Noteworthy civil work structures involve 22.7 km of Bore Hole Collectors pipework, a 14.2 km Transmission Main, a 39.3 km Transfer Main, and an extensive 181.3 km Distribution Network System. The initiative also incorporates various reservoirs, including five 5,000m3Rc Reservoirs, one 3,000m3Rc Booster Collector Reservoir, and two 2,500m3Rc Reservoirs, along with a 300m3Rc Break Pressure Tank. Additionally, 12 km of Access Road Construction is planned to ensure comprehensive infrastructure development.

 

Review and Update of Urban Water Supply Study and Design Criteria, including Development of Water Supply Study and Design Manual

The general objective of this project is to enhance the quality of the feasibility study and infrastructure design of urban water supply projects in Ethiopia through a provision of updated Urban Water Supply Study and design Criteria, including a comprehensive water supply study and engineering design manual that adequately orient the development and management of water supply service delivery. The specific Object of the project is to update urban water supply design criteria for different stages of studies, in three groups: Feasibility studies, preliminary design, detail design, and prepare an urban water supply study and engineering design manual which could help all stakeholders of the sector as a tool to appropriately undertake study and engineering designs.

 

Detailed Design and Construction Supervision of Jigjiga Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project

The Jigjiga Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project is being executed in two distinct phases. The primary focus of Phase 1 is a short-term intervention involving design review and construction supervision, aimed at rapidly enhancing the water supply coverage within the city. This initial phase is geared towards immediate improvements. In contrast, Phase II constitutes a more extensive undertaking, concentrating on the detailed design and construction supervision of the city’s water supply system. This phase is strategically planned to meet the anticipated water demand up to the year 2047, with a projected daily water demand of 106,704 cubic meters. The comprehensive approach to both short-term and long-term solutions underscores the project’s commitment to sustainable water supply and sanitation infrastructure for Jigjiga Town.  

 

Study and Design Review of Kebridahar Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project

The undertaking involves a comprehensive study and design review of the Kebridahar Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project. The primary objective is to conduct a reconnaissance study and design aimed at augmenting access to clean and sufficient water services for the town’s residents. The project seeks to elevate the safety and quality of water supply, enhance service levels, and refine the urban wastewater management system. Furthermore, it strives to provide rural water supply access in line with the GTP-2 minimum service level, ensuring a minimum of 25 liters per capita per day within a 1 km radius from the water delivery point. The overarching goal is to extend this service to 85% of the rural population, with 20% of them benefiting from the installation of Remote Power Supply (RPS) systems, thereby contributing to improved water infrastructure and accessibility for both urban and rural areas in Kebridahar.

Study, Groundwater Development Design, Construction Supervision, and Contract Administration of Dire Dawa Water Supply & Sanitation Project

The Dire Dawa Water Supply & Sanitation Project entails a multifaceted approach encompassing groundwater assessment, drilling supervision, design, construction supervision, and contract administration. The project includes the successful drilling and assessment of 16 deep wells, boasting an average yield of 30 liters per second and reaching a depth of 350 meters. Infrastructure development involves the installation of 36 kilometers of DCI Collector, Rising & Transmission Mains ranging from DN200mm to DN900mm, as well as 56 kilometers of Gravity & Distribution Mains ranging from DN900/80mm. Additionally, the project features the construction of 11 reinforced concrete Collector, Transfer & Service Reservoirs with capacities ranging from 500 to 4000m3, along with four Booster Stations equipped with 24 Surface Centrifugal Pumps. The electromechanical systems are composed of 14 Submersible and 24 Surface Centrifugal Pumps, complemented by 11 standby generators and chlorine dosing systems. This comprehensive initiative signifies a substantial investment in Dire Dawa’s water supply and sanitation infrastructure, incorporating advanced technologies and extensive construction measures for sustainable and efficient service delivery.

Design and Construction Supervision, including Contract Administration, for Godey Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project

The Godey Town Water Supply & Sanitation Project encompasses a comprehensive approach, including the study, design, construction supervision, and contract administration for a 15,000 m3/day water supply facility. This facility caters to the town of Godey and involves several key components. The project incorporates a river intake at Wabeshebelle River, a low lift pumping station, and rapid sand filtration-based water treatment facilities. The extensive pipe network spans over 70 km, connecting various elements of the system. Elevated tanks, ranging in size from 250 m3 to 500 m3, and ground reservoirs with a capacity of 1000 m3, contribute to the overall water supply infrastructure. Additionally, the project integrates a comprehensive SCADA control electromechanical system, ensuring efficient monitoring and control of the entire water supply facility. This initiative signifies a robust investment in Godey’s water supply and sanitation, addressing the town’s growing needs through advanced design and construction methodologies.

Preparation of Detailed Design, Tender Documents, and Construction Supervision for Hargeisa City Water Supply System, Somaliland

The project involves the preparation of a detailed design, tender documents, and construction supervision for the water supply system of Hargeisa City in Somaliland. The comprehensive scope includes an assessment of data collection and evaluation, encompassing a desktop study of existing reports, studies, and relevant documents. The project further involves a thorough assessment of the existing water supply system, utilizing hydraulic modeling for system optimization. The detailed design phase will focus on water supply components, with a specific emphasis on the preparation of a pro-poor water supply concept. Additionally, the project encompasses the preparation of tender documents and the subsequent supervision of the construction phase. Heineken Breweries SC Ethiopia - Consultancy Service for Water Supply Provision to Addis Ababa, Bedele, and Harar Breweries

Breweries SC in Ethiopia has initiated a consultancy service project for the provision of water supply to its breweries in Addis Ababa, Bedele, and Harar. The project encompasses the development of groundwater sources, involving the drilling of six wells in Klinto, Addis Ababa, with depths ranging from 300 meters to 1000 meters—marking the deepest well in the country. Additionally, three wells will be drilled in Harar, and two wells in Bedele. The project also includes the development of surface water sources in both Harar and Bedele. This comprehensive approach underscores Heineken’s commitment to sustainable water sourcing for its breweries, combining groundwater and surface water development to ensure a reliable and resilient water supply for its operations in these regions.

Design and Supervision of 5 Multi-Village Water Supply Schemes in Afar and Somali Regions, including Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)

The project involves the design and supervision of five Multi-Village Water Supply Schemes in the Afar and Somali Regions, with an inclusive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). The primary objective is to provide crucial support to affected communities in these regions by undertaking the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of water supply facilities. This comprehensive initiative not only addresses the immediate water supply needs but also ensures that environmental and social considerations are thoroughly assessed through the ESIA process, reflecting a commitment to sustainable and community-centric water infrastructure development in the Afar and Somali Regions.

Construction Supervision of 15 Towns Water Supply Project

The Construction Supervision for the 15 Towns Water Supply Project is a crucial role encompassing design review, work supervision, and contract administration. This involves actively monitoring and approving daily site activities, ensuring that construction works adhere to the specified contract requirements. The role further includes close supervision of the construction process, verifying that the works are conducted in accordance with the agreed-upon specifications. To maintain effective project oversight, regular status reports are submitted on a weekly and monthly basis to the team leader. Additionally, the Construction Supervision role contributes to the contract administration works by providing valuable inputs to the Deputy Team Leader. Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction and Pressure Management for Jimma Water Supply System

The project entails the implementation of a Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction and pressure management study for the Jimma Water Supply System. The primary objective is to minimize water loss through leakage, subsequently ensuring the availability of additional water for public service. The study involves the use of specialized instruments to monitor and identify leaking pipes within the Jimma town water supply system. Remedial actions include the replacement and repair of old and leaking pipes to mitigate losses. Additionally, the project focuses on measuring the water entering and leaving specific district areas or branches, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of water consumption patterns. Through these measures, the initiative seeks to enhance efficiency, reduce non-revenue water, and optimize the overall performance of the Jimma Water Supply System.

 The Jimma Town Water Supply Rehabilitation and Expansion Project involve a comprehensive design review of various critical components. This encompasses a thorough assessment of the vertical hopper clarifier treatment system, the 40-kilometer distribution system, 4000m3 storage reservoirs, booster stations, and access road design. The project includes a river intake, booster stations, and a state-of-the-art Rapid Sand Filtration (RSF) based water treatment plant. Lalibela Water Supply Project/The Study Includes groundwater exploration/

The Lalibela Water Supply Project aims to elevate the standards of water supply and sanitation infrastructure in the region. The study includes a crucial component of groundwater exploration, involving the drilling of multiple boreholes. The infrastructure development encompasses a rising main of 200 mm over a distance of 7 km, a comprehensive reticulation system, and essential electromechanical facilities. In addition to enhancing water supply, the project also addresses sanitation needs by incorporating the construction of 18 public latrines. By leveraging groundwater sources and implementing a well-designed network, this initiative seeks to provide sufficient and reliable water supply, contributing significantly to the overall improvement of water and sanitation services in Lalibela.

The Sebeta & Burayu Towns Water Supply & Sanitation System project entails the design and design review of water supply and sanitation infrastructure for Sebeta, Burayu, Wlete, and Alemgena, serving a population of approximately 500 thousand. The planned system includes rising and distribution lines spanning over 220 km, with pipe sizes up to 500 mm, as well as the design of reservoirs ranging from 500 to 4,000 m3. Additionally, the project involves the design of access roads and auxiliary buildings. The business plan preparation is focused on outlining the financial and operational framework for sustainable management. Dire Dawa Terminal Boosting Station and Well Development Study and Design

The Dire Dawa Terminal Boosting Station and Well Development Study and Design project involve a comprehensive study and design process for the terminal boosting station at Sabian well fields and borehole development well fields. The initiative includes the design of rising and collector systems spanning over 13 km with pipe sizes up to 400mm. Additionally, the project encompasses the design of main distribution lines covering about 14 km, with pipe sizes reaching up to 900mm and 500mm. The Debremarkos, Dangla, and Kobo Water Supply and Sanitation Project (WSSP) and Groundwater Development Study focus on the identification and development of groundwater sources. The project involves the installation of pumping systems to transport water to the towns, utilizing a booster station and a 3000 m3 reservoir connected via a 300 mm pipe. The water is then distributed to the towns through a gravitation system comprising a pipe network spanning 37 km. This comprehensive study and project aim to ensure sustainable water supply services for Debremarkos, Dangla, and Kobo, utilizing efficient groundwater development and distribution systems.

The Yem Special Woreda Community Water Supply project is initiated to address the significant challenges faced by the people of Yem in accessing safe and potable water. In response to this critical need, Action Aid has undertaken a comprehensive program that includes surveying, study, and design works for an integrated water supply, sanitation, and hygiene education system. The initiative aims to alleviate the hardships faced by the community by implementing sustainable solutions that ensure access to clean water, improved sanitation, and essential hygiene education. This ambitious undertaking encompasses the supply intake from the Awash River, the implementation of advanced treatment plants, construction of over 40 km of pipelines, and the establishment of elevated reservoirs with capacities of 250 m3 and 1000 m3, both ground and high. Being the first local firm to handle such a substantial project, the activities undertaken by the MSC include design reviews of intake structures, treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping systems, electromechanical works, distribution systems for the town, as well as contract administration and work supervision. The project involves the study and design of borehole-based water supply projects, coupled with construction supervision work for the Dire Saden portion. Simultaneously, it includes the design and construction supervision of sand dams for the Kobo project.
