In a pivotal two-day workshop that commenced on March 7, 2023, urban water supply research, design criteria, and measurement guidelines took center stage. Attended by esteemed officials from various sectors, including the Ministry of Water and Energy, private organizations, water service institutions, contractors, and consultants, the forum began with an opening address by Mr. Motuma Mekassa, the Minister of State for Water and Energy. Mr. Mekassa underscored the crucial role of feedback in fortifying the documentation process and advancing endeavors aimed at ensuring access to clean drinking water.
During the workshop, the Consultant presented the Manual and Guideline document through a series of presentations, each dedicated to different components of the document. This strategic segmentation aimed to offer stakeholders valuable insights into the proposed updates and revisions, ensuring a thorough understanding of the intricacies involved. By providing a comprehensive examination of each aspect, the Consultant facilitated interactive discussions and constructive dialogue, enabling stakeholders to actively engage in the refinement process.
Ms. Hamere, the team leader of the project undertaken by MS Consultant JV Burnside, emphasized the critical importance of precision and thoroughness in the document preparation process. Recognizing the intricacies involved, Hamre stressed the need to invest time and effort to ensure the creation of a document of exceptional quality. She underscored the profound significance of the document to the nation, highlighting its role in shaping water management strategies at both regional and national levels. Hamere’s emphasis on meticulousness and dedication resonated with stakeholders, reinforcing the collective commitment to delivering a document that meets the highest standards and addresses the diverse needs of stakeholders in the water sector.
Tamiru Gedafa, the Chief Executive Officer of Drinking Water Supply at the Ministry of Water and Energy, reiterated the institution’s unwavering commitment to providing access to drinking water, echoing sentiments shared by forum attendees.
The workshop served as a platform for comprehensive discussions on updating design requirements and guidelines critical for effective urban water supply management. The discussions underscored the collaborative nature of the initiative and highlighted the collective endeavor towards strengthening urban water supply guidelines.
