On October 5, 2020, Oromia Water and Energy Resources Development Bureau entrusted Consulting Engineers Salzgitter (CES) GmbH of Germany with MS Consultancy plc. of Ethiopia to undertake the Feasibility Study and Detaill Design of Liquid Waste Management System (CWIS) for Jimma and Nekemte Towns. After the completion of the Draft Feasibility Study, a workshop appraisal took place at Addis Ababa’s Capital Hotel on May 10th and 11th, 2022. The two-day workshop created a platform, which gathered different actors, aimed at finalizing the Feasibility Study to pave the way for the Detail Design phase. In this regard, the Consultant gave a series of 4 presentations, each relating to the various aspects of the proposed CWIS project (Technical ( FSM, Sewerage System, FSTP, WWTP) and non-technical (ESIA, Business Plan).
Overall, the workshop participants expressed their gratitude towards the outputs provided by the Consultant, highlighting the urgent need for the proposed project to improve current sanitation challenges in both towns. During the discussion session held on the second day, relevant stakeholders and actors gave various comments as well as recommendations. Issues relating to design criteria, fecal sludge management, and financial analysis were among the numerous discussion themes. The Consultant concluded the Workshop on the note that it had recorded all raised issues to update and improve the Final Feasibility Report.
